Okay, college is probably one of the most overrated things in American culture. And please don’t lie and say that the vast majority of people go there for serious education. Many people just party there, but of course they probably won’t admit it and say that they want to get a bachelors in psychology or whatever. For some reason we apparently live in this messed up culture where someone who doesn’t go to college is seen as intellectually inferior, even if they aren’t in nearly as much debt, and actually make a decent amount of money (e.g. an electrician).
Again, some people may not want to admit this. But you probably know it’s true.

College is overrated.
Whether you want to admit it or not, it seems like for many people going to college nowadays is less about getting serious education and more about going there due to social pressure from parents, American culture, and/or to make an excuse to party a lot.
Of course, people probably don’t want to admit that, but I honestly think it’s true.
But apparently some Americans care way too much about their social status, so maybe they’ll abuse college and use it as a flex.
Like this:
Alex: I went to University at Buffalo.
Sam (who’s from an upper middle class white suburban family): I went to Yale. LOOK AT ME I’M SO SPECIAL AND SMART!!!
Alex: (might be secretly jealous, but probably because we live in the USA, going to college is a bragging right to show how “smart you are”, even if you’re a terrible person. So Alex keeps quiet).
