the chicken was lovely

A statement to indicate a break during or after a dramatic moment. To mean that "the chicken was lovely" means that the one uttering this statement either wants to leave the scene or take a dig on how appalling or dumb (or awkward) the moment was. This phrase is usually told by a bystander of the situation, but, at various times, an accused individual may also say it.
Example 1.
Bystander: "Well, the chicken was lovely, but I gotta go!" (leaves the scene)

Example 2.
Person A: "Wait, so YOU cheated on my husband?" (points to Person B)
Person B: "Oh! Well...the chicken was lovely, but I have to dip!" (leaves)
