homoeroticism

The sexual attraction that exists between members of the same sex. It is not necessarily homosexual; rather it exists as a tension between heterosexual norms and expectations and natural attraction between two members of the same gender. It exists strongly in single-gender spaces, such as sports teams, rap music and pro-wrestling, however it is acted out through heterosexual norms, often placing a wedge between the homoerotic tension and the hetero norms of the space.
In professional wrestling, many of the moves are eerily reminiscent of sexual positions. The tension of these positions, in combination with extreme close proximity, creates homoeroticism. This is subverted by using derogatory slang towards homosexuals and women in particular, in order to reassert traditional masculinity and heterosexuality.

homoeroticism

Male interaction that appears homosexual in nature, but is acceptable and not considered homosexual (by other men) because it done in a socially appropriate setting (i.e. sports).
For example, in sports like football when men slap each other on the ass, their actions are not homo-like because they are in uniform and playing a “manly” and aggressive game. Therefore their aggressive and manly behavior denotes the underlying homosexual tendency of slapping another man on the ass. "Oh that's not gay, they are just using homoeroticism"

Another example can be seen through the sport of wrestling, where men are frequently on top of each other in various sexual positions but are not considered homo because they are enacting manly behavior through physically fighting. They also scream demeaning names at each other like “bitch” and “pussy” in order to negate any thoughts of homosexuality by using a term that is generally demeaning to females.

"Wow they look gay"
"Nah, it's just homoertocism"

homoerotic

A useful neologism, but one that is frequently misunderstood and misused.

1. Most literal meaning -- tending to engage or arouse sexual interest, or imply an erotic connection, by one man for another.

2. Extended meaning, sometimes misused (see Example 2 below): a coded type of homosexual reference invisible to heterosexuals. This is fine as far as it goes, but it should not exclude heterosexuals.

3. Similarly, if used carelessly, "homoerotic" can be misused to imply an environment in which same-sex attraction exists simply because of same-sex affiliation. In other words, a judgment is made regarding sexuality where none should exist, allowing the speaker to practice psychology without a license.

4. Often the butt of malapropisms.
.
1. The "Calamus" section of Walt Whitman's book of poetry LEAVES OF GRASS is frankly homoerotic in message and in symbolism. (It was also one of the sections 'banned in Boston').

2. Saying that Marlon Brando has "unique homoerotic appeal" is literally true, but should not be used in a context that would exclude the legitimate experience of erotic appeal that so many straight women felt.

3. To say that eight straight men in an office constitute a "homoerotic environment" implies a judgment that simply may not be true. Where's the attraction? "Homoerotic" should not be used as a pretentious and wrong substitute for "same-sex" or "homosexual" used literally.

4. "Al's dabbling in those homoerotic medicines." Tim Allen, on HOME IMPROVEMENT; his character should have said "homeopathic."

Homophobic

In modern times this is probably the most misused word. The first part of the word, homo comes from the masculine Latin noun homo hominis (a third declension noun for any latin scholars) and it translates as man or human being. Phobia comes from the Greek word phobós which translates as fear or morbid fear. So when combined they form the word homophobic which is and adjective for one who is afraid of man and a non homophobe, one who fears man, or homophobia, the fear of man. There is nothing about homosexuality in homophobia. A better word may be homosexaphobic.
Homophobic is used wrong because very few humans are afraid of human beings. Homophobia is most prevalent in all other species who have become afraid of humans because of our harmful actuons which result in their habitat loss and eventual death.
