guyfriend 

A male who is friends with a female. This is used in contrast boyfriend. A guyfriend is just a friend who happens to be a guy; a boyfriend is someone you are dating.

gayfriend 

Absolutely having nothing to do with someone's sexual orientation, since anyone can be a gayfriend, it is:

Someone who a girl/guy has been friends with so long, that the tiniest thought of ever being in a relationship with that person no longer crosses their mind. Can be a person who is "the guy" or "the girl" that's always there for someone, helps them through situations, or is there for them when no one else will, but is now so far into the "friend zone" that they will never have a chance with this other person. Usually,

1) Man, Joe is really into Julia, but he's so deep into the friend zone that now he's Julia's gayfriend.

2) Dude, I love Andrea, but not like that, we grew up together, she's totally my gayfriend.

3) I think Jane and I would be great together, but she's always dating assholes, i'm pretty sure i'm just her gayfriend now.
