in the money grab that was the late 1990s music scene, record labels tried to profit off the subgere Emocore, aka emotional hardcore. In order to do this, they would find a band with a three word name that evoked feelings of melancholy, joy, or angsty sadness and then have the band write trite lyrics in tight jeans.
The get up kids wrote a song for one tree hill, how meta! The cover of the album has a bunch of angsty teens on it! The know the emoquation well!
