The sound a potato makes when it speaks.

It is a common misunderstanding that this is only the noise they make when they hit a hard surface (when they exclaim, dut! in surprise and pain), but anyone who spends the time to have a conversation with a potato will find it is not a noise, but a voice and language.

The language of dut is simple to learn, as it only contains the single article, which acts as the adjective, noun and verb. The difficulty however is in the pronounciation and syllabic translation.

It is believed that a large portion of the dut dialect was lost during the Potato Famine of 1845 to 1849. Recently however, a breakthrough has been made, when archaeologists discovered a tranlation Tablet (the Potater Stone), at Stone Henge.
John Howard: Wow, it is hot today!

OR

Get the dut mug.
An action where members of a marching band or drum corps, namely the battery(consisting of the snares, basses, tenors, and marching cymbals), will say the syllable "dut" to keep each other in time. Many drum corps and marching bands have all of the marchers dut when not playing in practice, but in performance it is usually only the battery that will be dutting.
1. "In sets twelve through fourteen, the battery has to keep dutting to make sure everyone stays together during the drum break."
2. "Dut, dut, dut, dut, dut..."

Get the DUTTED mug.
An exclamation meaning "Oh, that fucking sucks!" Originally derived from "that suuuuuuuucks" - a term used at Edina High School in 2002. But later it morphed into the elusive dut. Often, the dut is complete with a hand motion that includes pointing one arm outward while hitting the inner elbow of said arm with the other hand. A dut can be used on yourself (self-dut), others (dut), or a large group of people (duts all around).
Mark: Yo Niko, I totally got blue-balled by this chick.
Niko: That's a big dut!
Mark: Yeah, total self-dut.
