The sensation that an amputated or missing mouse (even a wireless or optical mouse) is still present, causing the body (typically the mouse hand) to respond accordingly in conjunction with the movements of other body parts in the process of typical computer operation. Similar to phantom keyboard syndrome, and the rare and far more critical, phantom monitor syndrome.
I left the wireless mouse for my laptop at work, but because of the phantom mouse syndrome I experienced while writing this definition, I kept trying to use it anyways.
