Megalomania; Extreme vanity and conceit; Pele syndrome is characterized by an inflated sense of self-esteem and overestimation by persons of their own powers.

An older name for the mental condition is narcissitic personality disorder. In extreme cases, a person with the Pele syndrome might refer to themselves in the third person (as Pele himself).
Muhammad Ali ("I am the greatest"), Cristiano Ronaldo ("I am rich, famous, and a great player") are the prime examples of people with the Pele syndrome.

Leaders of religious cults and dictators usually have the Pele syndrome.

Historically, Alexander the Great and Joseph Stalin are said to have the Pele syndrome.

The prime example of someone with the Pele syndrome is Pele himself. In the last 40 years he has regularly come out with such pronoucements as "I am the greatest", "I am still the greatest", "There will never be another Pele", and the nugget "Every kid around the world who plays soccer wants to be Pele".
