One of the most advanced soldiers in the UNSC apart from SPARTAN's.

United Nations Space Command (UNSC) Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (ODST) are under the operational authority of Naval Special Weapons (NavSpecWeap). Their methods of operation allow them to conduct missions against targets that more conventional forces cannot approach undetected.

The ODSTs perform highly specialized, small scale, high-risk operations such as:

• Deep ground surveillance (DGS)

• Direct action (DA)
• Unconventional warfare
Counter-terrorism operations
• Counter-contraband operations
• Personnel and special equipment recovery/capture

ODSTs are recruited from the Special Operations Groups of all the nations of the Unified Earth Government (UEG). Since the first group of “handpicked volunteers” was activated, ODSTs have been dropping “feet first” into combat.

Also Known As: Hell Jumpers.

(Thanks to Bungie.net!!)
ODST 1:Hey dude, I'm kinda nervous for the drop.

ODST 2: Just chill out man, what could go wrong?

ODST 1: Idk man what if I don't make it?

ODST 2: Oh you'll make it, just "Believe."

Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, or ODST for short, are the most bad-ass soldiers in the UNSC (United Nations Space Corps) besides the SPARTANS, most especially Master Chief. You can find them in both Halo games.
Sgt. Johnson is a famous ODST from Halo and Halo 2.

An ODST is short for "Orbital Drop Shock Trooper" most commonly found in Halo 3 & Halo wars. They were nicknamed "helljumpers" because they don't travel on pelicans, they are shot directly from a specialized ODST Dropper ship far up in the atmosphere. They drop in pods that allow the ODST soldier to land anywhere in Halo. They are stronger and more advanced than Marines, but mainly, Marines can be trained into specialized ODST's. They carry a Silenced SMG and a Magnum with them at all time. Only ODST's have these weapons. They have the power to jack weaker covenant vehicles, such as Ghosts, and Wraiths. Also, Choppers. They are probably the third most badass forces in the UNSC. I love Arbiter and the Spartans (:.
Spartan: I heard some helljumpers should be here to back us up.
Marine: The fuck are helljumpers?
Spartan: Retard, Orbital Drock Shop Troopers! They drop in pods and whoop some ass.
Marine: So, that is short for ODST? Then what are helljumpers?
Spartan: You have alot to learn child.

short for orbital drop shock troopers, it was a division in the UNSC army that was sent into suicidal battles. It is purely voluntary, and only the "bravest" would join. their motto is "jump feet first into hell", since they droped down in pods that got extremely hot. their journey from space to earth was very rough, and sometimes a few would die, either from the heat or the impact. They look hella badass, and are in all halo games. they wore black suits, and had combat knifes. they are in all halo games, and they kickass. In halo 3 they are even able to complete almost an entire mission on their own.don't underestimate them. they were nicknamed the "helljumpers"
Pete: hey, lets go kill our marines.
jeff: ok, just don't hurt the odsts, they're badass.
pete: i don't give a damn for the odsts, im gonna kill them.
ODSTS: hey, fuck you! *rockets fire*
pete: *dead*
jeff: i told you they were badass.

Allie: Hey, where's your man?
