When speaking and you don't know someones name in a sentence, you use matey or matey boy instead.

"I spoke to whats his name, matey boy, earlier"

Someone who acts dangerously on the road. Or a cute nickname for your friend (can be changed/downgraded to Matey Bro/Brother)

Often used in a derogatory way towards a male who thinks he's smarter than he actually is. You may well know his proper name

"Hold on a wee sec matey boy, when I went to school there were 52 weeks in a year."
