To edit a quote in a way that radically changes the meaning, so as to grossly misrepresent the views of the person being quoted. Named for disgraced historian Nancy MacLean, who engaged in this practice repeatedly in her 2017 book, "Democracy in Chains."
Senator Thompson was quoted as saying "Lithuanians are subhuman," but the quote was MacLeaned. What he actually said was, "There is no factual basis for the widespread belief that Lithuanians are subhuman."

Matt: $5,000
Kevin: Ouch, I feel like I’m being taken to the MacLeaners. That bottle is worth $1,000 max.
