What someone says when they find your company enjoyable, but do not feel any attraction to you. It does not mean they want to hurt you, despite what many nice guys claim.
"I think you're a great person, but I just don't like you that way. Let's just be friends.

Get the Let's Just Be Friends mug.
A polite way of saying "you're honestly terrifying and I'm worried a more direct rejection will cause you to break into my house and murder me in the night."

People on the receiving end of this phrase are expected to simply grow up and take the rejection like reasonable adults instead of whining like small children over the internet.
Person A: I like you.
Person B: I'm sorry, lets just be friends.
Person A: Oh ok. I can't say I'm not disappointed, but I understand that you are under no obligation to love me even if I was kind to you and we share a lot of the same interests, and I also understand that you are not obligated to give me a reason as to why you don't like me. I'll respect your decision because I actually have respect for you, and that respect is not and never was hingent upon whether or not we would have sex.

Get the Lets just be friends mug.
The dreaded curse uttered by a witch when banishing an unsuitable male partner to the friendzone.

Get the Let's Just Be Friends mug.
When a girl asks to just be friends she really means "you're a jerk who I would never date" or "I don't like you in that way, but I want to be your friend." Either way you got turned down!
"I like you"
"Let's just be friends, k?"

Get the Let's just be friends mug.
A phrase when a girl/guy politely tells you that they don't see you as a romantic partner, but still wants to be friends with you.

If you are angered or feel insulted by this, you really shouldn't be, as it's their personal choice and opinion on who they view as a friend or as a partner and you should just move on as this is one chapter in you life.

Keep your friendship with said person and to not ruin it unless you are one of those "Nice Guy" or "Nice Girl"

Get the Let's just be friends mug.
A phrase that is commonly misunderstood by the nice guys. It means exactly what it says, but just incase you don’t understand I’ll dumb it down for you:
The girl who says this isn’t interested, not because she wants to be with an asshole but because she genuinely isn’t interested in you.

An example of such an interaction using this phrase:
Nice guy: m’lady, I am in love with you.

Girl: sorry, let’s just be friends

Nice guy: fine then, go for another man who will beat and abuse you, I can’t wait until you come back to me all beaten and bloody, cos that’s what other men will do to you. I would never do anything to hurt you if you said yes.

Get the Let’s just be friends mug.
Get the god damn hint. She/He doesn't like you back so stop being an asshole wondering if it means anything else. You both will most likely drift apart after these words are said to you, in rare cases, this can work out and you can still be friends.
Let's just be friends, and don't be a "Nice guy" and say I'm going to go get abused.
