A type of person beginning in the late 1960's that moved to abolish stereotypes altogether, but eventually becomming one themselves. Often looked down upon, for frivilous drug use, though that is in itself a sterotype. Hippies generally believed in peace, love, anti-war, and standing up for beliefs. Strongly consisting of the younger generation, they surprised the world with their non-conformist beliefs and not backing down. They showed the earth that some DO care, and they protested, marched, dressed, spoke, ect. to show that they stood up for their beliefs.
I am a hippie. I believe in ultimate sharing of love, peace, and the general good of environment. But I will bash your face in if you dare insult the way I think.

a member of the counter-culture "revolution" from the mid-1960's until the early 70's. Generally, the polarized youth and young adults from that generation who were tired of the ongoing war in Vietnam, the social policies of Richard Nixon (then president) and the escalation of nuclear conflict with the USSR. Generally speaking, a movement of youth manifested in folk-style music, organic patchwork clothing and long hair as a rejection of the normative values of the time frame in lieu of peace, love and acceptance of others. Also, generally associated with casual sex coinciding with the advent of "the pill" (an oral contraceptive) and drug use dabbling mostly in psychedelics ranging from marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms to LSD-25. Most accept that the era culminated with the rock festival Woodstock in New York state, waning thereafter to the forthcoming "Yippie" or hardline political activists like Abbie Hoffmann of the mid 1970's.

someone who promotes peace, love, unity, and respect, not that PLUR thing that ravers throw around. many of them are pacifists and some are vegans/vegetarians. they enjoy protesting, tofu, and being a democrat.

Modern day hippies are groups that pretend to have an ideal and an anti-establishment cause, but really are as closed minded as any clique or trendy group. Some think everything should be as happy and peaceful as their privileged lives have afforded them, and others are as sketchy and messed up as anyone.
The prolems with this group are they think it's cool to neglect hygiene, gather there opinions from emotions and not facts, and only listen to very few bands/djs, the one's that are the most popular amongst hippies. This creates quality bands/djs to get overrun and sold out by people who don't have a clue about what makes the performers exceptional.
They basically ruin things do to ignorance and selfconsciousness.

She got to college and realized her look wasn't going to get her enough attention. After buying the "hippie handbook", she knew what to wear, how to think, and what one band to listen to. Now she gets to smoke bowls with the cool kids and never has to buy anything, and can be a slut without looking like one.

one who embraces belief in peace love and happiness. some narrowminded sterotypical assholes like to associate them with pot, also know as weed or marijuana. The truth is there are many sub parts of the term hippie. there are college know it all hippies that walk around telling teenagers that they don't know the things that they should know because they havent been to college yet. there are music hippies who like to express themselves through music. there are vegetarian hippies who refuse to eat meat and protest meat eaters. and then of course there are SOME hippies who choose to smoke weed.
