In the digital era, it can include using social media (status updates, tweets, etc.) to be the first to comment on bad news. Often done under the auspices of being concerned or "united", but invariably comes off as just being morbid, showboating douchebag/douchbaguette.

A term students at the white supremacist high school "beacon" yell at students from Brooklyn Tech to attempt to enforce their so called "superiority". Lead psychologists believe this is a coping mechanism to compensate for the crushingly overwhelming fact that they know they will end up at BMCC or be forced into coercing their parents to pay their way into college. In doing so, said students consequently refuse to acknowledge that the only criteria to acceptance into beacon high school is to be tall, white, and skinny.
