First I’d like to state, for all those who lack real intelligence and decided to make scene (and urban dictionary at that) a deprecating hell-hole, that none of those belittling words about this trend is true. Scene is a fashion trend, in the era of 2000, that is, for the most part, inspired by a retro 1980s indie look. What does this consist of? Primarily this means most scene kids (estimating 98%) are defined by: skinny jeans, band t-shirts, hoodies, miniskirts, leggings, bullet belts, name brand clothes/handbags, skateboarding apparel (fur-hood parkas, skate brand t-shirts etc), wristbands of various designs (usually those plastic bracelets), Converse, and Vans (mainly slip-ons).

Along with the stuff I mentioned above scene kids are also, roughly by 25%, a branch from another trend (that you all know of) known as Emo. This means, along with the defined above, scene kids are also defined by: skinny jeans (mainly black and also tighter), band t-shirts (tight as well), studded belts, snakebite piercings, and black horn-rimmed glasses. Now please don’t get the two trends confused. What males them different, for the most part, is the fact emo kids are known to be depressed/sad (for some strange reason) while scene kids are the opposite.

From reading above you’re 50% on your way to knowing what being scene really is. Scene kids, like emo kids, are fixed around the color black though scene kids are also fixed around bright colors too (as in neon). Scene kids have fads, mean things that come and go, that include: having a profile on multiple social networks (myspace, bebo, etc), being a vegetarian, text talk (l33t style) and being straight-edge. While 98% scene kids do this, this is NOT required to be scene.

What really makes you scene is your hairstyle and your music. Now I’m not telling you to just go and change what you listen to for scene reasons (because what you like is what you like), though I do prefer listening to bands that are also scene. As a scene kid it is a must that you go to shows (as in concerts), even if the band isn’t mainstream or you don’t know the band (meaning local and unheard of). Lastly KNOW YOUR MUSIC; it’s a must. Scene hairstyles are mostly straightened (and dyed black) and choppy (as in cut with razor comb) and has bright dye in certain parts (some temp, some perm).

Now to finally clear it EVERYTHING! Saying your scene doesn’t make you a poser. If someone ask, you say “Yeah I’m Scene”. This is to prevent people stereotyping you calling you a liar and hypocrite (for calling people posers of scene when your scene too). Changing overnight doesn’t make you a poser; clothes are clothes and a trend is a trend. To finalize this, being scene is like being a preppy kid or a goth kid. It all revolves around fashion (clothes and music). I want to state just because you follow a trend doesn’t mean you change your personality. Be yourself, there is only one of you.
no example needed, everyone is different. Scene Kid is a Scene Kid, regardless of there race or religion. That's a fact. D:

Since the 2007 downfall of the Scene trend, there are less Scenesters out there. However, it has been picked up by the younger generation. These kids are usually 13-16. Sadly, you may also see 10-12 year olds trying it out, then failing epically. A lot of things are different, yet the foundation of the Scene is mostly the same.
The first stage of the Scene, sometimes labeled ‘elektrikk’ evolved into ‘br00tal’, which now has come to what I’d call “new age scenesters

MUSIC:
2008 = screamo, post-hardcore, electronic/dance, acoustic
AS OPPOSED TO
06/07 = deathcore, grindcore, hardcore
2005 = pop punk, emo

HAIR:
2008 = teased, less crazy and dead bird-like, brown gaining popularity
06/07 = teased to dead bird-like state, strictly black or white blonde
2005 = short, choppy, black

STYLE:
2008 = standard vans/converse, skinny jeans, band t-shirts, graphic/vintage, plastic jewelry, bandanas
06/07 = skin-tight black skinny jeans, black skirts+leggings, plastic jewelry
2005 = (same as 2008 scenesters)

MAKE UP:
2008 = dark eyeliner, colored or no eye shadow
06/07 = black eyeliner, cat-eye or winged out, black eye shadow, fake moles
2005 = (same as 2008 scenesters)

ATTITUDE:
2008 = resembling normal people. some are conceited and pull a “SUP IM BETTA DEN U” move
06/07 = total elitist snobs. Arrogant, cocky, stuck-up, etc. Only talk to people as amazing & trendy
2005 = more snobby than new age scenesters, but not as bad as the br00tal kids.

Many bystanders claim that the Scene is dead and that anyone who still continues to follow it is a try-hard/poseur. However, this is not always the case. Scene is much like the Punk & Goth styles. It hit its peak and witnesses the best of times, but they decline, and fall into near extinction. Same with the Scene trend. The main followers have grown up to be 16, 17, and 18 year olds who no longer take part in compulsive hair coloring or MySpace whoring. However, the younger generation continues to keep it alive for a few last breaths of air.
this should explain scene kids from a more recent point of view.

scene kids? kids who know the music scene, sure they dress alike, but who doesnt these days? most chavs wear sports clothing, most goths wear black, but whos to say that wearing skinny-jeans and eyeliner is a bad thing?
everybody's different, different people belong to different cliques, different cliques follow different fashions...whats so wrong about that?

people have different ways of doing things, why cant that just be accepted?
everyone is a person, no matter what they dress like or how they wear their hair, scene kids or not

A scene kid is a recent trend or style among teens spawned from a blend of the sub-genres punk and emo. A scene kid can be a boy or girl and generally tends to wear bright and often fluorescent colours and displays some of these typical scene kid attributes:

• Prefer going to parks then socializing in town or cinemas
• Guys BMX

• They wear bandanas
• They wear band t-shirts
• Girls wear converse and guys wear high nike trainers or a skating brand such as Etnies or DC
• Some wear tight, brightly coloured nylon jackets

• Get offended when you call them an emo as they are often mistaken as one
• Use proper English and correct grammar when making text or comment on myspace

• They hug whenever they see each other
• Get drunk often and go to numerous raves
• Adore glow sticks
• Constantly put an exclamation mark at the end of their sentences
• Use the smilies =, =) and never the traditional
• Use the (Y) symbol on site which don’t support smiley’s
• They wear lots of accessories
• They wear hoodies, and bags with bright stars and crazy patterns
• They wear flat peak hats, tight black shirt and clothes intended for members of the opposite sex
• They like graffiti
• They like school
• Wear t-shirts with the word rave written on or make music, not war

• They listen to hip hop and advertise it to try and prove to everyone else they are not emo
• Try and distinguish themselves as being different because they claim to like bands they think other people their age don’t like like McFly or Busted
• Claim they listen to a lot more music then they do
• Say they love a certain band when they have only heard one of their songs
• Can be commonly seen at gigs
• Spends a great deal of their free time customizing their myspace, regularly adding new photoshopped pictures of themselves often in outrageous camera angles that don’t include their whole face.
• Other stereotypical pictures may include them making the shape of a heart with their hands or with writing on some part of their body saying something about love. Girls also take closeup pictures of their eyes with ridiculously complex patterns of makeup.
• Includes numerous quotes from films and music lyrics on their myspace to try and express their true feelings

• Love photography
• Have lots of sleepovers

The male species of Scene like to make out with each other not because they are gay but for attention. when called gay they retort and call the person homophobic!!!

Laura: I'm so not a scene kid, I'm just unique and your just a conforming asshole. I'm going to my friend Josie's sleepover in my brightly coloured clothes so we can get drunk on WKD an talk about how much we love hello kitty and Hadouken. Yeah anime FTW
