1. "Pathetic" person. Looked down upon, seen as someone who acts alot tougher than they are.

2. Punk rock. Loud, fast. Old school, like Bad Religion, The Stooges, Ramones, Adolescents, Dead Kennedys, totally kicks ass.

New stuff is mostly corporate and all sounds the same, which is exactly what the old school punk bands wanted to avoid. Like Good Charolette, Emo bands that claim to be punk, Blink 182, Newfound Glory, etc. Mainstream and shitty.
1. "Those punk ass bitches won't play woodsball."

2. "The Dead Kennedys are real punk, but I hate when talentless emo fucks record themselves crying and call it punk music."

Punk shouldn't/doesn't have any real stereotype because deep down, the only way you can be punk is if you follow your own values no matter what anybody may say about it. You don't have to wear studs, dye your hair a weird color or scream anarchy. The same can apply to musicians. It doesn't matter if you want to be underground and rage against society or go mainstream and just sing about life, as long as you don't compromise... and keep to the three-chord structure... then you're good to go. =
Johnny Ramone was a Republican.
Ian MacKaye is doesn't take drugs.
Buzzcocks and Ramones both liked to sing songs about girls and they're both punk.

punk is something that was born around the 70s. any bands coming out since then, really arent punk. avril lavigne is not punk, less than jake is not punk, static thought is not punk. the real punks came up around the 70s. bands such as, social unrest, circle jerks, the exploited, the mutants, flipper, the clash and the ramones, are all real. some of these bands are still around, keeping it alive. any band, any person coming up now and calling themselves punk, are only trying to re-create something that can't be re-created. most of them dont even realize this. alot of people think that because the sex pistols came out around this time, they are punk. the truth is, they are posers. they might even be the first punk rock posers actually.(im not too sure because i wasnt born yet, and its highly possible that other people back then thought punk rock was "cool" and wanted to try it out). the sex pistols are probably the ones who set the trend for everybody. such as crazy hair(not mohawks, because that was a native american tribe i believe they were called the mohicans?) chains, torn up clothing, etc. also there are even people out there that go as far as fighting to prove themselves. these may get labeled as "gutter punks". they believe that you have to win a fistfight for everything. literally everything. such as your mohawk? your leather jacket? your white laces on your combat boots? i thought punk rock was supposed to be about no rules. call me a pussy because i prefer not to fight. but next time you pass judgment on another for this same reason, arent you a pussy because you're doing what you're told instead of living free?
#1.) "wow, sid is viciously cool because he has crazy hair. i wanna look like him!" this person is a poser.

#2.) "man, ive never seen another one like you. you're different but thats cool" allthough he'll probably tell you hes not a punk, he might be.

#3.) "so johnny, if i win this fight, i get my mohawk right?" win or lose the fight, this person wants a mohawk

A term that is now misunderstood by most people. Others described it well, but in addition to them, punk is MADE, not bought.
People consider Green Day to be punk, even though Green Day is no where near true punk.

Punk is a lifestyle. Punk rock, anarcho punk, crust punk, pop punk, and '77 punk are genres. Do not let anyone tell you that punk is a music genre. Especially if this person considers Hot Topic to be a place to buy punk stuff. It is, in fact, the very thing that Johnny Rotten and all the other early punks were rebelling against.

Johnny Rotten may very well have been in the first punk rock band. The Sex Pistols came out of nowhere to shock the world with their first single, "Anarchy In The UK", completely taking the music industry for a roller coaster ride.

Johnny's US equivilent would probably have to be Jello Biafra, lead singer of the Dead Kennedys. Although Jello sang of revolution, similar to The Clash, the two had alot in common. Neither one seemed to have much disernable singing talent, but they both had more than enough to say.

Nowadays, punk is divided amongst many smaller factions. Usually, these punk factions (such as street punk) hate each other, defeating the whole purpose of the movement. They all want change, and think they'll do it by bickering amongst themselves because of whose band can play the most power chords in a minute. So, for this reason, many people say punk is dead. Or at least deserves to die.
"Punk is my favorite musical genre!"
"NO, stupid, punk is a lifestyle. Punk rock is a musical genre."
