getting the knees out

The moment during a sporting event when anxiety reaches a critical mass, causing a spectator to pull on their pant legs to a point at which their knees become visible.
I had just walked into the bar and could tell the game wasn't going well. It was only the third quarter and Dean was already getting the knees out.
