Pocahontas was a Native American woman born around 1595 in Werowocomoco, VA. Her real name was Matoaka. Her siblings are Matachanna, Pochins, Taux Powhatan, Tatacoope, Nantaquas, Parahunt. She was the daughter of the powerful Chief Powhatan, the ruler of the Powhatan tribal nation, As far as historians know, nothing in Pocahontas's childhood indicated she would become known as a folk icon. But when the first settlers arrived on Powhatan land to begin the colony of Jamestown. Pocahontas tried to keep peace with the settlers as more and more settlers came. Pocahontas died in March 1617 in Gravesend, United Kingdom. She was bared March 21, 1617, at St George's Church, Gravesend, United Kingdom.
