Another name for the event that happened on May 4th, 1970, when National Guard troops opened fire on students after a series of protests occuring on the campus of Kent State University and in the adjoining town of Kent, Ohio.

The incident was initially sparked by planned student protests against Nixon's announcement that the US would send troops into Laos and Cambodia during the Vietnam War.
Students started gathering to protest in the first few days of May, 1970. Within days, the conflict between students and National Guard troops called in to keep order had led to arrests, injuries, the deliberate burning of an ROTC building, and the deaths of four students.
1) The events of May 4th, 1970, also called the Kent State Massacre, inspired a Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young song called "Ohio" (written by Neil Young).
