Metalcore is a music fusion genre that incorporates elements of heavy metal and hardcore punk. The term is a portmanteau of heavy metal and hardcore punk. Although hardcore punk and thrash metal are prominent influences, metalcore bands have been known to incorporate traits of groove metal, alternative metal, death metal, grindcore and post-hardcore. Metalcore subgenres and fusion genres include:Deathcore, and Mathcore

some metalcore bands are. Atreyu(Old), All That Remains, As I lay Dying, Underoath, Lamb of god, Alesana, Enter Shikari and Bring Me The Horizon (Deathcore.)

A watered down poor excuse for a metal genre that claims to mix extreme metal and Hardcore punk but really adds Emo, Screamo, Pop and Glam as well. A sorry metal sub genre that falsifies the idea of punk metal into crappy crybaby new generation "brutal" pop metal. Emos and Scene Kids mostly listen to this type of music. Typically, Metalcore = Emo Metal & Deathcore = Scene Metal. Its a band wagon genre like Glam Metal and Rap, people fallow it to the end of its popularity and go back to listening to something usually non-metal related. But not always, sometimes they mature their Heavy Metal music tastes and find better music. Core kids often refer this type of music to Post Hardcore, the name states what it is, "WASN'T" hardcore.
Some of these bands try to label themselves as Grindcore or Thrash but are far from the idea of ever being so.

The genre has motivated a bunch of kids to start these types of bands and fill the underground scene with terrible ill-prepared wanna be in a band type music.
August Burns Red, Asking Alexandria, Bring me the Horizon, Attack Attack, All That Remains , Memphis May Fire, The Devil Wears Prada and Black Veil Brides are uber pathetic talentless Metalcore bands that core kids listen to and try to share with you before you kick their ass.

A nice Blend of Hardcore music, with metal. Some what more popular than hardcore, though no matter how hard it tries it will never be popular like shitty nu-metal, which is a good thing.
Atreyu, Bleeding Through, Himsa, It Dies Today, Eighteen Visions, Nora, Poison the Well, and The Bled are all metalcore bands.

Metalcore is basically an evolution of the mixing of punk and metal that has been hapening for at least 30 years. In the begining bands like Minor Threat, Bad Brains took on a harsher edge to punk music and played it fast. Their speed influenced the first wave of thrash metal like Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, etc... From there you had crossover wich was a completel blend of punk and thrash with bands like DRI, Whermacht, The Accused, Attitude Adjustment, etc. Also at this time hardcore was coming into it's own with the likes of The Cro-mags, Agnostic Front, Sick Of It All. Now you add influences of death metal from the early 90's and the fierce speed of late 80's crossover bands like Cryptic Slaughter and grind bands like Carcass and Napalm Death, especially the melodic death sounds sounds of At The Gates and In Flames and you have metalcore. More metallic and generally a more technical style of hardcore with breakdowns and clean sung parts as well for better or for worse.
Metalcore: Killswitch Engage, Unearth, Zao, Lamb Of God, Between The Buried And Me, All That Remains, Misery Signals, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Burnt By The Sun

Hardcore: Terror, Most Precious Blood, Converge, Comeback Kid, Nora

A mixture of Melodic Death-Metal Riffs, Harcore-Style Breakdowns, and the occasional Emo Chorus. Metalcore is (in my opinion) one of the greatest musical genres out there. Most older fans claim that the newer bands are'nt even metalcore but they are just idiotic people who dislike change.
Atreyu, Killswitch Engage, Norma Jean, As I Lay Dying, A Life Once Lost, Bullet for my Valentine, Heavens Shall Burn, Bleeding Through, Between the Buried and Me, Through the Eyes of the Dead, Cephalic Carnage, Converge, and more metalcore bands.

A mixture of hardcore punk and metal. Metalcore is short for metallic hardcore. There are 2 types of metalcore, regular metalcore and there's melodic metalcore. Some bands such as The Devil Wears Prada, The Number Twelve Looks Like You, and Underoath tend to be on the more 2000's screamo side, same thing goes with some of Bullet For My Valentine's stuff. Bands such as Hatebreed are just called hardcore. Although they do use elements of hardcore, they truly aren't. Bands like Minor Threat and Verbal abuse are true hardcore
Regular metalcore: Hatebreed, Sworn Enemy, Agnostic Front(new stuff)

Melodic metalcore: Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, Straight Line Stitch

DUDE!!! I was listening to hatebreed!! Thats fuckin sick ass hardcore!!!!!

No, they're metalcore...

No they're not!! Metalcore's bands like the Devil Wears Prada and Killswitch!!!

Devil Wears Prada is more of a screamo band. Killswitch Engage's melodic metalcore, Hatebreed is regular metalcore, metallic hardcore.

Oh...
