Downgrades disguised as security patches and bug fixes to electronics and computer software. Not to be confused with upgrades, which traditionally were supposed to enhance a software product's user experience.

pointer update

Change in address, phone number, IM, or other contact details. Originates in the programmer community where a "pointer" is something that tells you where to look for the real information.

I got a new cell phone and have to send everyone a pointer update so they don't call the old number.

Human Update

A human update is a replacement for the word "manual update" . This is any update that is performed by a human being on a computer system that is not a computerized or automated update.

The computer did not perform the update so a human update (instead of manual update) was completed.

The computer setup was not automatic so a human setup (instead of manual setup) was performed.

The information may need to be entered humanly (instead of manually).
