to leave something or someone surreptitiously; to abandon a person or thing in a manner designed not to be noticed; to ditch. (Origin: Leaving Larry at the party with an, "I'm just going to get another beer" then never returning. Extended to the leaving of objects in wrong sections of the department store once you've decided better of purchasing them.)
