tree skiing

Tree Skiing and riding is a popular ski related activity for expert skiers and snowboarders seeking less crowded areas and fresh snow.

The SteamboatSki Resort in Steamboat Springs, Colorado is famous for its tree skiing, as are many other ski hills, including Revelstoke in British Columbia, Canada.

hairbag'r

The best known group of hairbag'r(s) skied the higher elevations of North West Colorado and explored areas above tree line on extremely steep slopes prone to avalanches.

base edge bevel

The base edge bevel is the degree of upward ski or snowboard edge angle away from the snow surface.

Base edge bevel allows the ski or snowboard to skid at the beginning of the turn, prior to hooking-up or engaging a turn. The result is that the ski or snowboard is less likely to get caught-up on the snow and throw the rider into the woods.

Too much base edge bevel can result in skidding a turn or not having enough edge hold on the firm, hard snow surfaces resulting in a yard sale.
I love turning screws as a ski tech, but that Edge Head bitching about his base edge bevel not giving him enough edge hold is enough to piss off the Pope.

Side Country

Side Country describes the ski or snowboarding zone just outside a ski area boundary.

Unlike Backcountry Skiing and Snowboarding where the riders hike in for access, Side Country is accessed from the lifts of a ski resort.

Several ski and snowboard manufacturers started building a product category called "Side Country" in 2008 which combine characteristics of lift-served skis and snowboards and backcountry or off-piste specific products.
I'm gonna ride the Side Country today because the ski resort's trails are packed with spring breakers.
