'Gangrel' is an archaic word derived from northern British dialect. Roughly, it means "wild" or "feral".

In modern popular usage, the word is the name of one of the vampire clans in the White Wolf roleplaying game "Vampire: The Masquerade" (later "Vampire: Requiem").

True to the word's original meaning, within White Wolf's 'World of Darkness' game environment, the Clan Gangrel are usually loners, preferring to spend their time in rural areas or otherwise away from 'civilisation'.
In reference to Vampire the word is capitalised.

As a singular noun: "He's a Gangrel."
As a plural noun: "She's one of the Gangrel."
Collectively: "The Clan Gangrel".

In its original usage, the word could either be a noun ("a gangrel") or an adjective ("a gangrel creature"), and was not capitalised.

A fictitious martial arts system invented for the 2002 movie 'Equilibrium', by Kurt Wimmer and starring Christian Bale and Taye Diggs. The gun kata, like all martial arts katas, is a rote-learned sequence of moves and positions which in this case supposedly enabled the gun-wielding fighter to dispatch multiple opponents very quickly using moves based on the statistical distribution of opponents in previous recorded gunfights.

The gun kata made for some very effective and well-choreographed fight scenes in the movie, bringing hand-to-hand style to ranged-weapon combat. However, a fighter attempting to employ such a system in real life would be unlikely to survive very long.

'Kindred' means 'akin to', in the sense of being related or similar to something. A 'kindred spirit' defines someone with similar values and desires to one's own.

In popular usage, the word is associated with the White Wolf roleplaying game "Vampire: The Masquerade" (later "Vampire: Requiem"). In this context, the word (usually capitalised) is used to refer to a single vampire, a group of vampires, or vampire society as a whole.

(It should be noted that this usage is a little awkward when used to refer to a single individual. Since the word 'kindred' defines similarity it therefore implies plurality.)
In general usage: "We've got so much in common. She's my kindred spirit."

In Vampire:
"He's one of the Kindred."
"This group could threaten all the Kindred in this city".

The Jedi are a fictitious order of warrior monks who play an important role in the 'Star Wars' movie series by George Lucas. They were responsible for the maintenance of peace and order in the Galactic Republic, and were skilled in various mental disciplines from domination to psychokinesis. In addition to these powers, a Jedi novice was expected to construct his or her own lightsaber in order to qualify as a fully-fledged Jedi Knight.

The Jedi were most likely based on one of the real world's eastern religious traditions. Much of their symbolism has parallels in certain branches of Buddhism.

Trivia: Contrary to popular mythology, there is no officially-recognised Jedi religion. An Internet prank at the time of the 2001 UK Census informed citizens that if enough Census forms were received giving 'Jedi' as the religion, it would have to be recognised by the state. However, this was never the case, and the Jedi 'religion' remains entirely fictitious.
Singular: A Jedi, or a Jedi Knight.
Plural: A group of Jedi, or the Jedi Order as a whole.
