A typing layout developed in the 1940's and intended to replace the clumsy QWERTY layout, designed in the 19th century to actually slow down typing. The Dvorak layout is far more efficient, allowing a typist to achieve a much faster rate than with QWERTY. There are also one-handed versions of Dvorak, for both the right and left hand.
This is the Dvorak layout:

Any modern computer can be reconfigured to use the Dvorak layout.
