IBTAL's definitions
The best month of the year when all of the great Black activists, athletes, inventors, scientists, scholars, musicians, poets, authors, architects, explorers, etc throughout history get the most recognition for their achievements. Africans have richest history in the world, as they are the ones who brought Mathematics, Science, Language, Architecture, Cosmetics, Art, Spirituality, Folklore, and so many other things to the world. And as for Black Americans, we are the ones who built America, and not just through free labor via slavery. It's so important for people to learn about historical figures such as Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Malcolm X, Lewis Latimer (inventor of the carbon filament used in light bulbs), Benjamin Banneker (scientist, Almanac author, and farmer who built the first American clock and assisted in creating the city layout for Washington D.C.), Juan Garrido (first person in the Americas to cultivate Wheat), Garrett Morgan (inventor of the Traffic Light and the Gas Mask), W.E.B. DuBois (Pan Africanist civil rights activist who co-founded the NAACP), Kenneth Dunkley (inventor of 3D Glasses), George Crum (inventor of Potato Chips), and so many other monumental figures! Coincidentally, this month corresponds with many other events like National Heart Month, the Super Bowl, the NBA All Star Game, the Oscars, the Grammy's, and Valentine's Day.

It is annually observed the day before Election Day in November, the first Monday of the month. Its purpose is for African diasporic people to exercise a 24- hour moratorium from shopping or participating in other commercial activity such as using the transit system. You can only spend money at Black owned businesses. The Pan-African ideal of the observance is to highlight racial inequality and the gap between the wealthiest of one of the most powerful nations in the world and those living in poverty.

Africa is home to so many different unique cultures and civilizations, such as the Ashanti Empire, the Nok civilization, Yoruba culture, Ancient Egypt (and yes, Egypt otherwise known as Kemet was predominantly African/Black), Ancient Nubia (similar to Ancient Egypt, and underrated just like most African civilizations), the Kingdom Of Kush, Great Zimbabwe, Zulu, Oromo, Mandinka, Fulani, Berber culture, etc. Modern day Homo Sapiens and pre-modern day humans originated in Africa before migrating to other parts of the world. The most essential things of society today have come from Africa, including Mathematics, Science, Astronomy, Art, Architecture, Spirituality (the root of all religions), and even the use of speech (as stated by French historian Count Constantine De Volney).
There are 54 countries in Africa. It is the richest continent in the world, which is why Africa is constantly getting exploited for it's resources. Unfortunately so many people have a false perception of Africa, and despite everything that the continent and it's inhabitants have been through over the centuries, it's still one of the best places in the world overall.
