matrix

a term describing a controlled environment or situation in which people act or behave in ways that conform to roles pre-determined by a powerful person(s) who decides how the world is supposed to function.

Living on or within a matrix may also be referred to as "on the grid", with greater flexibility and choice available to those who venture off-the-grid.
After years of living a boring life, working 9-to-5 on the East Coast matrix, he relocated to Portland, Oregon, where he traded his car for a bicycle and started earning a living with his acoustic guitar.

controlled environment

a place or area where rules, regulations and behavioral norms are subject to strict enforcement or scrutiny. A person responsible for maintaining order in a controlled environment will normally strive to appear consistent when out in the open, but may enforce rules arbitrarily behind closed doors.
Kids who grow up in excessively controlled environments often fall behind in college, having all that freedom to cut loose but not knowing how to manage it.

rape

a horrific crime in which the sexual will of a perpetrator, a rapist, is imposed upon a rape victim, who for whatever reason does not manage to prevent or stop the violation from taking place. While rape disproportionally affects women, it can happen to a person of any sex, orientation, or gender.

In the recent political arena, Republicans have misused the word "rape," describing some rapes as "legitimate", citing that it is "God's will" when a rapist impregnates his victim, and even calling rape "beautiful" when it results in a child being conceived. For the most part, these statements were made to express extreme opposition to abortion rights, and thankfully many a conservative Republican political career was destroyed when their shocking words sent reproductive age women and men running into the arms of Democratic candidates.
In the middle of the 2015 Grammy Awards, President Obama appeared on the big screen to speak out against rape and violence against women.

Chimamanda Adichie

A stunningly gorgeous Nigerian-American author whose nimble writing style often presents stories from multiple points of view. Her feminist ideals and her willingness to write critically about West Africa and the Nigerian diaspora are widely considered very bold and brave.
Chimamanda Adichie's voice was featured in the Beyoncé song "Flawless," in which the author spoke to encourage today's women to overcome sexism, including the idea that women - but not necessarily men - should automatically aspire to marriage.
