A self-proclaimed nation that doesn't make an attempt at secession from their sovereign, recognized state, but rather exists nominally alongside their recognized state. Most unsanctioned nations are technically anarchist in nature, or a lack of governmental structure.

The first known unsanctioned nation is the Territories of Juleokin that is self-proclaimed as an Unsanctioned, Voluntary Association, Territorial Confederation. Unsanctioned as in not having real sovereignty nor do they typically attempt to be sovereign; voluntary associations as in even if a new territory joins the national government, their leaders are not required to participate at official meetings or conferences (mostly online, like through Zoom at the time of this writing); territorial confederation meaning it has no central government other than the whole of all territories combined (mostly the President of the Territories of Juleokin).

As is the case with the Territories of Juleokin, most unsanctioned states don't have a single area nor landmass to govern, and thus to join unsanctioned states, you normally have to either own land (business or residential, or both, etc) or they rent and/or lease their property.

In all technicality, unsanctioned nations are still micronations, but the only difference is that the traditional micronation is typically an attempt at real secession, believing they hold the rights to their area as if it were their own sovereign nation.
