Top definition
A term to define the tyrannical archetype of institutional systemic oppression of 'wrongthinkers' by Californian multi-billionaires in ivory towers. The Tech Tyrants are the socio-political group that abuse technology to silence critics and to steer the narrative, thoughts, opinions, and voting of the masses at all costs by any means necessary.

The term tech tyrants has slowly grown in relevance as the ultimate summary of the condition in which we exist where a minority of a minority control not just the viewpoints of the majority, but what we are allowed to know, think about, talk about, or even learn.

From typing something in a search engine and thinking "Oh wait, I'd never be allowed to find that." to being deleted from Twitter every time an election draws near like millions of users are every election globally the tech tyrants are a creeping manifestation of elitist Marxist utopians.

It appears it was first used by a free speech lobbyist in Australia, Dr. Lex Winter, in a white paper on dystopian technocracy in 1998. It has subsequently come to more prominence as it has trended on alt tech websites during a mass exodus from Tech Tyrant social media.
