If you're straight edge, it means you don't drink, don't smoke, and don't do any non-prescribed drugs.

Why are we straight edge? It's simple. We don't need drugs to get through life or have fun. In fact, it's truly baffling that so many people actually need drugs to enjoy life. Life is what you make it - and if you need to be constantly intoxicated to get through it, that's pretty pathetic when you think about it. In this generation it's now considered cool to get drunk and high all the time, but in reality drugs appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Furthermore, being straight edge means obeying the law. Many drugs are illegal. Why the hell would I want to become a criminal just for some stupid highs? It's not worth it in the slightest. There are so many legal ways to have fun. There's music, movies, TV shows, video games, literature, art, culture and so much more to indulge in. The world has plenty to offer you. Doing drugs can result in addiction/dependence and criminal convictions if you are doing illegal substances. Who wants that?

If you're straight edge, be proud - it might not sound like much to be alcohol-free and drug-free, but many people ultimately fall victim to peer pressure and give in to temptation. Being straight-edge doesn't make you a religiously boring loser. It's cool, healthy, wise and moral. Keep your mind clear and enjoy life. There's a bright and colourful world out there.
Drug-user: Hey man, want to drink/smoke/do drugs?
Straight edge person: Nope, I'm straight-edge and proud of it.

Defines the biggest fans of Good-Charlotte. As long as you're punk, wear black everyday, and listen to the GC, straight-edge applies to you.

As far as I know Minor Threat originated Straight Edge in the 1980s. Originally, the life style consisted of refusing to use drugs/alcohol. Now, a lot of straight edge kids like to avoid casual sex; however, minor threat never portrayed that idea in their song "straight edge." The band has said that they named this life style "straight edge" because it shows someone who has "got their shit straight" which gives them an "edge over others." They started leading this life style in high school when they would see the teens around them ruining their lives with drug use and alcohol. So, they did the opposite of what they saw people doing, which was a large part of the punk scene.
I'm a person just like you
But I've got better things to do
Than sit around and fuck my head
Hang out with the living dead
Snort white shit up my nose
Pass out at the shows
I don't even think about speed
That's something I just don't need

I've got the straight edge

I'm a person just like you
But I've got better things to do
Than sit around and smoke dope
'Cause I know I can cope
Laugh at the thought of eating ludes
Laugh at the thought of sniffing glue
Always gonna keep in touch
Never want to use a crutch

I've got the straight edge

Straight edge (sometimes abbreviated sXe or with XXX or X) is a subculture of hardcore punk where people refrain from using alcohol, tobacco and other recreational drugs, in a reaction to the excesses of punk subculture. For some, this extends to refraining from promiscuous sex, following a vegetarian or vegan diet, and/or not using caffeine or prescription drugs. The term was from the song "Straight Edge" by the hardcore punk band Minor Threat.

Straight edge became a thing in the amid 1980s hardcore punk scene. Since then, a wide variety of beliefs and ideas have been associated with some members of the movement, including vegetarianism and animal rights. While the commonly expressed aspects of the straight edge subculture have been abstinence from alcohol, nicotine, and illegal drugs, there have been considerable variations on how far to take the interpretations of "abstaining from intoxicants" or "living drug-free".
"Yo, why did you have an X on your hand when we went to that misfits concert? It looked pretty bad-ass!"
"It shows that I'm straight edge bruh! Hardcore to the max! No drugs, no drinks. Edge life style ,man!"
"Nice! Wait, so you don't want to grab a beer later?"
"Nope. I'm staying clean and drug free for life."

People who are straight-edge listen to hardcore music and abstain from the use of drugs or alcohol.

People who are straight-edge like to base their whole schtick off of the fact that they are straight edge because for some reason they think it is such and accomplishment to listen to hardcore music and not do drugs at the same, like that is somehow seemingly impossible. They think that they’re so cool for not doing drugs even though most of the world doesn’t do them either.

Straight-edge people are very insecure and so label themselves as straight edge to try to fit in and have a social group to belong to because they are so utterly unlikable.
Look at those straight-edge pussies hardcore dancing over there like bumbling fucking idiots.
