*explaination below

Many people these days have different thoughts on 'scene kids'. Many people also relate 'scene kids' to 'emo kids'. Well, let me explain them both to you.

'Scene Kids' are more in for the style, and the music. The music genre that most stick to are hardcore, metal, screamo or anything like so. Some also listen to, dance, rap, hip-hop and trance music. 'Scene kids' goto as many shows as possible to meet up with their friends, meet new 'scene kids', see their 'favourite band', and throwdown * . Music is not everything to them though. Style is also very important. The way your portray yourself will lable you a 'scene kid' or a 'n00b * '. Most 'scene kids' stick to the regular, tight pants, converse (now a days, nike hightops), band tees, colourful mo-print tees, colourful hair, colourful makeup, fair skin and headbands. Body modification is also a big part of being 'scene'. The more wierd the piercing/tattoo the more 'scene' you are. Meeting up with your 'scene friends' and saying how much 'n00bs' annoy you, drinking, doing substances, and destroying public property are a favourite passtime. 'Scene kids' also hate preppy kids...for obvious reasons.
The Rules of Being 'SCENE'
1. Having a lot of x's in your name are not scene.
(x's are for straightXedge kids, n00bs, and emo kids)
2. Adding every 'scene kid' on myspace isn't scene.
3. Scene nicknames are a must on myspace.
(Sarah Slaughter, Marissa Murder, Alex Autopsy etc..)
4. 'Scene kids' must goto shows.
5. 'Scene kids' always say they aren't scene.
(if you say your scene, your a n00b.)
6. Doing illegal things is 'cool'
(breaking the law is risky, looking like a rebal give you scene points)
7. Having a lot of colours in your hair makes you scene and 'unique'
8. Teased hair is okay, unless its unbelievably teased.
(having hair that is too teased, makes you seem like a 'n00b')
9. Hello Kitty, Dinosaurs, and other 'cute' animals are very scene.
10. Photography, Poetry, Painting, Drawing and every other artistic thing is scene

'Emo Kids' are emotional. They are not happy with the world, are heartbroken, cut and cry. These kids get made fun of a lot, which makes them even more emotional. Writing poems about how depressed you are, is very 'emo'. Wearing only black, and not having any colours is very 'emo'. Heavy black make-up is very 'emo' because when you cry, people know. 'Emo kids' do not care that everyone knows how emotional they are, they actually prefer it.

*N00b; Posers. These kids wear colourful socks, have little children backpacks, and usually have un-'scene' hair. They call themselves 'scene' which is not very scene at all.
*Throwdown; Hardcore Dancing. A bunch of kids in a mosh pit, waving their arms around, spin-kicking and doing a lot of other harmful 'hardcore' dance moves.

Scene kids have a long history. Originally, they listened to indie music and the guys wore track jacket and had long dyed black hair. The girls wore jeans and band tees. As time went on, scene kids evolved. Now they are kids who listen to music described as "hardcore," "grindcore," or any other number of "cores." They go to "shows," or concerts, on a regular basis but usually not to see famous bands. Common features of each are as follows:

Guys:
Tight girl pants

Tight shirts made for little kids

Shoes such as Van's slipons, anything MacBeth, "old school" Pumas or Nikes, or Adidas Sambas

Reverse mullets with one eye usually covered by hair

Hair dyed black with highlights of another color

Hoodies

Black eyeliner

Lip piercings

Ears that are gauged

Kiss other boys but aren't necessarily bisexual

Girls:

Band shirts or small tees

Rolled up girl pants

Purses with sequins

Hair usually dyed two colors

Short, choppy hair

Septum piercings

Monroe piercings

Eyebrow piercings

Usually have a pearl necklace

Consider Marilyn Monroe a role model

Both:

May be straightedge

Usually wear black or white bandanas

Strive to have knowledge of the most obscure bands

Use big words to appear intellectual

Greatly offended when called "scene" or "emo"

Listen to rap almost as much as the "cores"

Go to shows and throwdown or twostep

Hate skaters even though some may skate

Claim that everyone copied them

type in all lower case and never use punctuation except for periods orXreplaceXspacesXwithXupperXcaseXxs

Obsessed with:

Robots
Dinosaurs
Being a bandit
Being a gangsta
Ebonics
Arizona Ice Tea
Bands with annoyingly long names like "A Burst of Pain Ignites My Heart With Eternal Agony"
<3 instead of saying "I love you"
iPod
Synthesizers
Keyboards
Oversized sunglass or aviator's glasses
Myspace
Andy Warhol
The word HEART, spelled like that
Hollywood Undead
Indie movies
Spelling some words completely and abbreviating others

The 'tougher', 'cooler' version of emo. Making it okay to make fun of emo kids because you're scene which, is way different.
Scene girl: "HAHA, LOOK AT THE STUPID EMO KID. I BET YOU SLIT YOUR WRISTS! IS THAT RIGHT BABE?"

Scene girl's friend: "..You wore her same outfit on Monday."

scene
Scene kids are often confused with those belonging to the emo kid culture.
Which they pretty much are, except for a few key factors.
First off, A scene GIRL's clothing:
Headbands
Bold Prints
Dyed hair
Long fake pearl necklaces
Choppy, often odd {dyed} hair
Alot of make up
Skinny Jeans
Big Sunglasses
Either a big canvas-bag type purse, or a small clutch with a bow on it or something
Polka Dots
Dinosaurs
Comic book heroes
Robots
Slip on vans
Converse
Big, odd rings
Shoe laces with pictures or writing on them
And a variety of other little kid like stuff.

A scene guy often attributes more to emo than the girls, the girls looking more preppy than emo.

Scene Guy's Appearance:
Bandana tied around face, hanging out of pants, and tied around thigh.
Often weirder, choppier, died hair than the girls, yet some go for a more simpler, hard core / emo do.
Tight pants
Ocaisonal make up
Tight vintage shirts
Studded belts
Converse Chucks
Vans slip ons
Various sized Gauges
Big Sunglases
Ocaisonial ripped skinny jeans
And so on.

The girls & guys tend to share appearances, and most look a little like indie rockers.

Personality wise, both boy & girl probably have pimped out myspaces, some are vegitarian, vegan, & sraightedge, most listen to anything from hardcore to electronica, most use gangsta references in their speach, most cuss, some are concieted, some are big club goers, most are bi, most live in California, some skateboard, most go to alot of shows, and they tend to hand out mainly only with eachother.
Though bashed alot for being "emo", most would probably kick your ass if you called them that, and go smoke a cigarette. They are highly advanced at html, livejournal, myspace, and the internet.
Though some are similar to emos, they're mostly rich white kids trying to be unique.
A part of a scene kid's conversation on aim:
xcuntXfacedXballerinax: Hey kidd, going to the hardxcore show tonight?
DeDXxXEm0tions: Right on, Ni99a. Oh, && I really thought your Spiderman shirt was rad, foo.
xcuntXfacedXballerinax: You know it, BIOTCH!!

a 'label', just like any other, for guys&&girls with shorter/choppier&& darker hair than others. They usually are the people with piercings or tatoos or the people you see hanging around waiting for a show to start. People tend to make fun of the 'scene' guys by calling them fags, gay,or anyother offensive term because of their style. (i.e wearing tight girl pants) they also make fun of them for trying to be different but still ending up exactly the same as they're friends when in all actuality no one is going to be different or an individual than everyone else. chances are there's someone exactly like you out there. being scene is a label. and anyone who labels others is contradicting themselves.
being scene, emo, hardcore, preppy, skater. they're all labels.
