Sampling is an action pop artists and rappers do when they can't come up with an original beat, so they would take an older song and cut it up in certain ways to make it a beat.
The most well-known acts of sampling are "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix-A-Lot being used for "Anaconda" by Nicki Minaj, "Dream On" by Aerosmith being used for "Sing For The Moment" by Eminem, "ABC" by the Jackson Five being used for "OPP" by Naughty By Nature and "I'm Coming Out" by Diana Ross used for "Mo Money Mo Problems" by The Notorious B.I.G.
