A word used by some people to describe themselves in a humorous way. Generally used by girls with low self-esteem who think they aren't attractive and/or cute enough to make guys, especially their crushes, interested in them. Most of the time girls who call themselves potato are decent-looking, or even considerably cute and adorkable, so their greatest shortcoming is their lack of confidence.

For extra humour and to blunt the edge of the perceived self-loathing, these girls might add the Japanese word "kawaii" (cute, adorable, lovely) to the term, making it "kawaii potato". This might be accompanied by a drawing of a potato with a cute-looking face similar to what can be seen in drawings by fans of anime.
Not-so-confident girl: I hoped senpai would notice me today, but then I remembered I'm a potato...

Shy girl: Well, I'm a potato. A kawaii potato!
