Used in contrast to "ok" or "ok." on text media to mitigate their dismissive tone. Extending the k does nothing to affect the phoneme but serves to open the word up in a way that makes it possible to believe that ok-ness is actually being conveyed. Adding a period negates the benefit. Alternately, many Os and trailing ks looks like sarcasm.
