When an employee is faced with a situation that needs to be handled in the present, makes an executive decision and solves the problem but is later questioned by their supervisor who has input about how the employee could have handled the situation differently.
Past tense - "Boy, Dan really missed the mark this week while sarge was outta town!"
Present tense - "Hey guys, boss had to talk to me about missing the mark with that whole email chain regarding the new policy"
Future tense - "I'd rather wait until I am told what to do because I don't trust myself to not miss the mark"
