an indie band so blatantly lacking in creativity, charisma, and skill, that it is almost unbelievable that they haven't just decide to off themselves.

Also the fans of such bands, who are often without a clue about what makes music awesome, and instead they listen to any old shit, because it was on T4 the other day, and the bass player had a nice haircut. (T4 is a shitty UK tv show which is 'hip' and 'with it' and 'edgy')'

Damnit! this song sucks ass!!! the Kaiser Chiefs are indie-nile.

Someone who immediately puts some obscure indie band on their iPod after it was featured on some show (The O.C., Scrubs etc.) and try to act like they are cool and knew who they were all along.
After Eels was on The O.C. everyone become indie posers and downloaded their album.

To tell you the truth, there's really no definition of an indie girl. Being "indie" is a state of mind--not a fashion statement.
There's no way to be an indie girl.
You just are.
If you happen to be a girl and you listen to independently produced music, watch independent movies, and if you stray away from anything mainstream then, yeah, you're an indie girl.
Indie girls don't indentify themselves as indie and they most definitely do not shun other people because of their tastes in music/movies/clothes/etc.
Indie girls don't just listen to music because it's indie.
Indie girls don't shun music because it's not rock. That's stupid. Indie music could be anything. Rock, rap, folk, anything.

That's it, I guess.

You're not an indie girl if you have to say it.

someone who thinks that by acting indie, they will be cool. in reality, they are not cool, and never will be, no matter how "indie" they become. This person harasses all their real indie/hipster friends, trying to steal their ideas, style, and music tastes, when really, they get their music from the latest episode of gossip girl, buy their flannels from abercrombie, and refuse to wear anything but real gold jewelry (preferably with diamonds or from marc jacobs). this person probably drives an audi convertible, but keeps her fedora in view in the rear window to up her hipster factor. this person spends their spare time googling "how to be indie" or having their friends take indie hipstamatic iphone pics of them to make their profile picture. If this person is a girl, she probably spends a lot of time complaining about white girl problems.
That girl is so indie, look out her in that dirty flannel...oh wait, is that from abercrombie? Is she listening to fall out boy?? What a wannabe indie!

While indie is about liking bands that aren't well-known / don't conform to genres / aren't popular, post indie is about liking bands, regardless of how popular they are.

Perhaps not on purpose, indie kids tend to scorn popular music, and measure indie cred based on how unknown their favorite artists are. You can't be considered "indie" if you mostly listen to popular music, even if you genuinely like the music for your own reasons, and don't care about other people's opinions of it (which was supposed to be the point of indie).

Post indie comes after indie, and fixes this problem. Post indie cares neither positively nor negatively about the popularity of music. It is indifferent. If you listen to music because you genuinely like it, and not because you are conforming to any group or genre, then you're post indie.
Indie Kid: Yeah, I used to like Coldplay, but then they got too mainstream, and I couldn't stand them anymore.
Post Indie Kid: Soo... you say other people's opinions of music don't matter to you, but you don't like a band because other people like it..? Does that make you lonely?
Indie Kid: ...Sometimes...

Indie is not about how you dress or what music you listen to, it's about your personality and the way you look at life.

An 'indie' person is someone who is independent and thinks for themselves. They don't follow the latest trends and listen to the latest music to try and fit into mainstream society, they just do what they like.

Indie people only do what they want because they are independant people and like to dress the way they want and listen to whatever music they like etc. However, some like to wear fashion labels, and some like to listen to some songs that are in the charts.

An indie won't go out of their way to be 'different', that is what posers do. An indie is someone who is born with a personality that means they don't fit into other stereotypes, such as emo, chav, mosh, goth, punk etc. Just because they are 'indie', does not mean they only listen to indie music. Some listen to lots of different genres of music.

Some indie people wear clothes that are 'different', they stand out in society with their quirky dress sense. However, some indies just look like your average person, but it's their personality and the way they think that makes them indie.
Observing your average indie person...

Alice: Look at her, she's listening to Escape The Fate..She must be emo.
Kate: But she's not dressed emo, she just looks average.

-Next day-

Alice: Look there she is again, she's listening to Rihanna this time
Kate: WTF...Oh, she must be indie :)
