Heterosexism - The false assumption that everyone is or should be heterosexual because it is assumed to be the only acceptable and viable life option; this assumption often leads to discrimination based on sexual orientation; a form of homophobia.

A pick me is a woman that is willing to do anything for male approval. She will embarrass or throw other women under the bus to achieve this goal. The unfortunate thing about a pick me is usually the men they are trying to seek approval from are of poor quality and treat women badly, leaving little real benefit for the pick me.

Heterosexism is a term currently being passed around by liberal, intelligentsia wannabes who subscribe to the current "gay agenda", used in an attempt to rhetorically link the plight of those poor "oppressed" homos with the very real and pressing past and current struggles against racism and sexism. People who view the active practice of homosexuality as being morally, religiously, or socially unacceptable are likely to be labeled as heterosexist. This differs from homophobia in that, rather than fearing homosexuality, a 'heterosexist' will simply view heterosexuality as being the social, cultural, moral, and/or religious norm.

Heterosexism is the prejudice against and exclusion of any and all. people who aren't heterosexual heteroromantics.

This term is used to be more inclusive of those who may face prejudice based on their orientations without implying that people who hold that prejudice have a mental illness they can't control.
