Most have thick glass to prevent forced entry. The officers would be on display like fish in a fishbowl.
Now days most control rooms have started using dark, tinted glass to prevent inmates from watching.

When people LOOK at you like DAYUM!! They're in complete amazement. I don't know who these people are that posted the previous definitions, but they got it ALL WRONG...put your face behind a fishbowl and it looks like your eyes pop out of your head.
