The Family Guy Pipeline Incident is a "related search" algorithm glitch on TikTok started by Family Guy clip accounts that used oddly satisfying videos of a metal pipe being filled with cigarettes and carrots, purportedly to avoid copyright strikes. Due to both visuals of the Family Guy clip and the pipeline video in one TikTok video, the algorithm recommended the search query "family guy pipeline incident" in the comment section. This started in mid-November 2022 and garnered interest as to what the algorithm-invented "incident" was.
The "Family Guy Pipeline Incident" then became associated with a trend called Family Guy Jumpscares, referring to a phenomenon on TikTok when parody Family Guy clip channels added random jumpscares of creepy imagery into the seemingly innocent videos to catch the viewer off guard. You're scrolling youtube shorts, seeing memes, gaming clips and some cringe videos, when all of a sudden you see a unique video. Its a family guy clip, with some stupid mobile game gameplay at the bottom. You think nothing about, and scroll further. Then you see another clip. And another one. You slowly realise that your algorithm has been infected by these clips. You try to press the do not recommend button, but they are all from diffrent channels. You desperatly try to get away from these clips, but they just keep coming. Everyone was hooked on to these videos so users saw it as an opportunity to add jump scares or unsettling footage. When someone is overly obsessed with the hillarious hit tv-show Family Guy. Some common symptoms of this can be things like; boring the living crap out of your friends by telling the same Family Guy jokes over and over, turning all of your conversations into "did you see yesterdays episode?" or "so Peter was like...". One of the most irritating and shit indulcing symptoms is retelling an entire episode word by word thus extremely boring the other person. If not treated it can leave your personality consisting of nothing but Family Guy jokes.
