A descriptive word referencing The Sisters Of Perpetual Indulgence and its members. The Sisters are a 21st Century order of queer nuns who can be easily recognized by their characteristic, over-the-top, drag outfits and makeup (collectively called "habits"). The Sisters made their first appearance as a group of gay, male drag nuns in San Francisco, in 1979, but have since grown to include chapters in numerous countries around the world, as well as many of the individual United States. Additionally, its membership has grown to include male, female, trans, gay, straight, bi, and everyone in between. The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence is a leading-edge Order of queer nuns. Since their first appearance in San Francisco on Easter Sunday, 1979, the Sisters have devoted themselves to community service, ministry and outreach to those on the edges, and to promoting human rights, respect for diversity and spiritual enlightenment. They believe all people have a right to express their unique joy and beauty, and they use humor and irreverent wit to expose the forces of bigotry, complacency and guilt that chain the human spirit.
Do you want to go to The Eagle with me this Sunday? The drag nuns are hosting a fundraiser for the AIDS Emergency Fund.
