Converse is a brand of basketball shoes. They are canvas shoes with rubber soles. They were made famous by Charles H. Taylor, a basketball player, in 1918. Since then they have become popular with just about everybody at different times. In the '70s and '80s, they were deemed to be the offcial shoe of the National Basketball Association.
Since the '80s, the Converse company went out of business and was purchased by Nike. Nike proceeded to move production of Converse shoes to China in order to reduce production costs.
Today Converses are popular with an entirely new crowd - the 'alternative' or 'artsy' kids who will probably never touch a basketball in their life - in addition to still being popular with the 'jocks' and 'preps.' The artsy kids somehow reason that they deserve Converses more than the preps because Converse shoes have become a symbol of 'individuality' (which is a word that's meaning has become extremely jumbled), when in reality the jocks or preps were the ones who would actually be entitled to the shoes if the system worked that way. This is because of the fact that in 1918, a basketball player popularized these shoes.

the best kind of shoes ever. you can customize them to your hearts desire. they come in a range of colors and patterns. not to long ago they were strictly worn by rockers, grunge, emo, ect.... people, but now-a-days everyone wears them. other shoe companies got jealous and decided to make a cheep ugly rip off -_-. recently the price on the SKYROCKETED! i used to get a plain, good quality pair for $16 but now i got a little fancier pair for $70! HOLY SHIT MAN! yah wanna know why? FLIPPIN NIKE! they were jealous too so they bought 'em out. anyways converse came out in 1908 and were the first b-ball shoe. (made by chuck taylor)

In which case most kids these days like to represent the "punk" side of it to show the actual roots.
In 2002 they were starting to come around, and just about everyone here in 2006 has them.
These shoes are also to be worn even if the soul falls out.

A shoe that is incredible. They are adorable and i dont think they will ever really go out of style. There are a lot of colors and designs for them.
You should see my converse. They are doubled. The outside is lime green while the inter flap is a skull design. The tongue is purple and they have black and white shoe laces.
