Coming out to yourself means you realize your sexual orientation is not what you thought. Coming out to others means you share that new information with friends and possibly family. Coming out to the public is done to make lesbian, gay, bisexual and other identities less invisible and to educate people.
Shaun is coming out to herself as bisexual but hasn't told anyone else yet. Elaine decided to included her mother in her coming out process so arranged a lunch meeting to confide that she is a lesbian. Tim wanted to do more for the community so coming out on a national talk show made his gay identity more visible.

"coming out of the cupboard" is a term to decribe the act performed by claustrophile glory-hole fetishists.
The participant enters a cupboard and sticks his manhood through the glory hole for a happy ending.

Al: "I think a seagull just shat on me in the kitchen"
Jon: "No, that's just Roy, coming out of the cupboard. Do you see the glory hole drilled in it?"

Where an lgbt person has come to fing out about a ‘coming out box’, it’s just a joke to confuse the straights, but you didn’t hear that from me
Gay 1: “sis I got my coming out box”
Gay2: “omg queen what did you get”
Confused straight: “ a what?”
