They pretty much get nothing out of it.

Cancel Culture is when someone is called out on social media for something they did, or for an opinion, in the present or past that turns society against them and it goes viral ruining that persons career or online popularity.

Celebrities in particular whine about it and call it cyber bullying because it's a form of organic criticism they can't control the narrative of.

To be cancelled is to be exposed in a way that destroys your online reputation. This happening to you when you deserved it is not cancel culture.

Cancel Culture is the result of somebody trying too hard to be "woke" and looking to cancel somebody to prove their wokeness. If you're woke, you don't need to prove it. See performative wokeness.

A term that has quickly risen in popularity by the crybaby right-wing nut bags after learning that there are actually consequences for their deplorable actions and words. Ironically, these people are strong advocates of capitalism, while spreading misinformation and fearmongering about socialism, crying when people actually vote with their wallets and avoid buying from someone with very shitty morals.

Roseanne Barr makes racist comments publicly and gets fire and now that is cancel culture. Morgan Wallen gets video taped using a racist epithet but the backlash is condemned as Cancel Culture. In response to the effort to remove monuments celebrating dead traitors of the Confederate States Military that were put up by racists to subjugate African American's, Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz said, “You cannot cancel a culture that love its heroes." Cancel Culture rarely comes up in a discussion that doesn't involve snowflakes whining about how some one bigoted now has to face the consequences of their actions.
