The disease affects mostly caucasian people unable to understand the significance of the term, but affects people of all races who do not understand, though they are less likely to use it. It can also affect Caribbeans who are out of touch with their culture. The disease is prominant among mixed communities in which people of other cultures are likely to be exposed to some form of dancehall or other Caribbean music, coming across the term in song or being sung and repeated by someone who heard the song.
