There are at least two definitions of that expression:
1) "to wish away something" means to turn a blind eye on something, to forget it, to pretend as if you are not concerned by that and like everything is just fine , to ignore, to act as if it doesn't bother or harm you
2) "to wish something away" or "to wish away" sometimes means to detach oneself from reality and to fall into your own dreams, to dream a lot about something.

When you approach a red light, and instead of applying the brakes and coming to a stop, you coast; with the intention that the light will turn green so you don't have to stop at all and can cruise right through it.

A wishful thinker is one who naively believes, what he/she wants an outcome to be, rather than dealing with the alternate reality of what the outcome probably in reality will be. Wishful thinkers are very sweet, but get into trouble with this way of assessing situations. Often very unrealistic, in a silly way. Pollyanna, optimistic. What they want to be true blinds them to reality.
I am sure the police will just give me a warning for my out of date inspection sticker.

To dispatch a person for narcissistic or capricious personal reasons. This phrase comes from an episode of the television series The Twilight Zone titled "It's a Good Life."
Usage: wish ___ into the cornfield. "If that dude doesn't quit staring at me, I'm gonna wish him into the cornfield."
