Noun: a friend who is usually only called upon by a friend when a more primary/prominent friend is unavailable.

Taken from the term β€œsecond string” in an athletic competition situation. In football, if the star quarterback gets injured during a play, the second string is called off the bench to replace him/her. A β€œSecond String Friend” is essentially benched until needed, if ever.

Synonyms: Plan B, Second Choice, Secondary Friend, Benched Until Needed
I got a call from X the other night. She had an extra ticket to a concert she bought for a friend, but they couldn’t make it so she called me to ask if I wanted to go because I am her Second String Friend.

The Watchtower magazine contains no advertizing and is not political. "It adheres to the Bible as its authority."
The magazine name is sometimes confused with Jehovah's Witnesses, who publish it and distribute it at their own cost. A "Study Edition" is the main teaching tool used at the public Bible studies of Jehovah's Witnesses, to complement and explain the Bible teachings. It is also available to the public in a "Public Edition" which is written in more general language with unfamiliar terms explained.
The Watchtower, Bible and Tract Society is a publishing company used by Jehovah's Witnesses to print and distribute all of its literature (including the Watchtower and AWAKE! magazines) through the congregations world-wide. It also makes its publications available free of charge at jw.org. Virtually everything they publish in many languages can be downloaded without obligation anywhere in the world. It is a non-profit organization completely comitted to fulfilling the prophecy of Matthew 24:14.
If you would like to know more about the Bible and how it is practical today, please accept our Watchtower magazine where you can consider these thoughts at your convenience. If you will read it we offer it free of charge or obligation.

They're this badass thrash-prog band that had some great stuff back in the 80s. You see, they started out in Austin, Texas and basically did NWOBHM and Rush covers before recording the greatest thrash album known to man, Energetic Disassembly. After this, their guitarist Billy White left because he was a sissy and didn't like metal. Their singer Jason McMaster also left to join some glam band called Dangerous Toys or whatever. They got replaced by new guys, like Ron Jarzombek and Alan Tecchio in time to record the greatest prog album known to man, Control and Resistance. After this, Jarzombek got hand problems and Tecchio left, so Watchtower sort of disbanded.

They're doing shows again, but we've been waiting for a third album since 1989 :/
Jim: Hey man, check this band out, they're crazy.

Bob: WHOA, who is this?

Jim: Oh, they're called Watchtower. Pretty cool, huh?

Bob: Hell yeah, where can I get some of their CD's?

Poser: MoAr LyKe CrOtCh-ToWeR, aMiRiTe?

They publish a magazine of the same name in which they tell their employees they will live in paradise on earth if they obey their leaders and work hard for them. The employees are known as Jehova's Witnesses.
