Noun: a friend who is usually only called upon by a friend when a more primary/prominent friend is unavailable.
Taken from the term “second string” in an athletic competition situation. In football, if the star quarterback gets injured during a play, the second string is called off the bench to replace him/her. A “Second String Friend” is essentially benched until needed, if ever.

The german abbr. for "apartment-sharing community" (sounds like: "way-gay")
Usually describes a bunch of young humans with little money that share an apartment to save cash.
There are three kinds of "Wohngemeinschaften":
Male only: no one cleans the dishes or anything else. highest riches lie in bottle deposits.
Female only: everything smells like vanilla. everything's clean and decorated in a kitschy way.
Mixed gender: male flatmates are usually gay.

I don't know what this is called in English, so I just say WG vay-gay to my kids when I tell them about my life in Germany. Many other ex-pats in Germany do the same. WG /vay-gay is a common term among us, even when in the States.
