A condition that forces the driver or owner of the car to adjust and control the volume after any manipulation of the dial by their passenger, despite the volume level actually being changed or not. This is caused by a serious distrust of others and their ability to decide the best volume level for their sound system and chosen track.

The invisible creatures who sneak into your empty, locked car and crank up the volume on the stereo so that it blares at 120 decibels when you return to the car and turn on the ignition. Some people mistakenly believe this phenomenon is due to the periodic cranking up of the stereo that takes place during a long drive, when in actuality it's due to the Volume Gnomes.
I think I'm going deaf. When I turned on my car, my Led Zeppelin CDwas playing at full blast. Volume Gnomes must've snuck in and cranked it up.

In the movie, Star Trek: First Contact, Zefram Cochrane plays a track by Steppenwolf in his shuttle at the loudest fucking volume possible, causing the sound to go through their mics and pissing people at the launch site off. Hence the term, Volume Dick.
