UAP or 'Unidentified Aerial Phenomena" is a professional term created by the Department of Defense to replace the term 'UFO'. They did this because 'UFO' has developed a significant negative social stigma, which they are working to remove. Will they possibly disclose information to the public? Why else would they care about the stigma? Who knows?
Navy official: You won't believe this, I was flying my plane and right outside I see a UAP.
Person: Wow you said UAP instead of UFO your fancy!

"Unidentified Aerial Phenomena". Sometimes instead "Unexplained Aerial Phenomena".
A visual stimulus that provokes a sighting report of an object or light seen in the sky, the appearance and/or flight dynamics of which do not suggest a logical, conventional flying object, and which remains unidentified after close
scrutiny of all available evidence.
Basically a newer term for UFO, but meant to imply a higher degree of validity.
