I first heard the term in a strip club in Atlanta. The dancer had a massive bush that made her look like she had Chewbacca in a headlock. A drunk redneck sitting in front of the stage was startled when he looked up and saw the giant overgrown patch. He hollered out, "Whoa, trim that kitty".
